Questions about cuckoo clocks

The clock is too slow or timing is incorrect

Regulation via pendulum:

If the clock is too slow, push the disc on the pendulum upwards.

If it is too fast, push it downwards.

The cuckoo does not call

The clips are still on the bellows
You may have forgotten to remove the clips from the bellows. The clips are to keep the bellows safe during transport.

The door of the cuckoo is perhaps still locked
Turn the bar on the door upwards to open. The cuckoo can then come out and call.

The „night-shut-off“ is active
Possibly the night-shut-off bar is in the wrong position. If you push downwards, the clock will chime or call, if you push upwards, the clock is silent.

Dust inside the clock movement
If all of this does not help, try the following: Remove the top-piece, weights, and pendulum from the clock. Take the clock off the wall – do not turn it upside down – and shake it gently. Make sure that you are holding the clock safely and make sure that the carvings  are not damaged. Hang the clock back onto the wall and add the top-piece, weights etc. Turn the minute hand to the full or half-hour and check if the cuckoo call now works.

The door of the cuckoo stays open all the time
Check whether or not the door can be closed by pushing it shut with your hand. Zhe clock is possibly not hanging level on the wall. The back of the clock should be hanging flat against the wall.

If the door opens very slowly, some oil might be needed. Put a few drops onto the hinges of the door.

The chain is no longer on the cog-wheels
If the weight and the cog-wheel work properly, allow the clock to work until the chains are completely wound down and then rewind the clock. Normally, the chains will realign onto the cog-wheels.

The cuckoo call comes too late
Let the cuckoo call at the hour. Then stop the pendulum and loosen the screws holding the hands of the clock with pliers. Now, replace the minute hand into the correct position (12 o’clock). Don’t forget to tighten the screw holding the hands.

The cuckoo call does not coordinate with the time shown on the clock
Allow the clock to chime / the cuckoo to call, and count the numbers of calls. Move the hour hand to the time just called and push gently against the face of the clock. It should then be correct.

The clock stops all of a sudden

  • Check that the weights are wound up.
  • Does the clock hang on a wall where it is possibly in a draft or being affected by air-conditioning? This can cause the pendulum to stop swinging. If so, please hang the clock on another position in the room
  • The pendulum is possibly scraping against the wood of the clock body. Please check that the clock is hanging flat against the wall.

The sound of the gong is not as it should be

The paper (for transport) between the gong and the wire has not been removed:

  • Wind the clock up fully and remove the weights, pendulum, and top-piece from the cuckoo clock.
  • Lay the clock face-down on a soft blanket or cushion
  • Open the back of the clock and remove the paper. Close the back door. Hang the clock back onto the wall and add the top-piece, weights, etc. Set the hand to the hour/half-hour and check if it now sounds better.

When the chime-wire hits the back of the cuckoo clock:

  • Wind the clock up fully and remove weights, pendulum and the top-piece from the cuckoo clock.
  • Lay the clock face-down on a soft blanket or cushion
  • Open the back of the clock and gently pull the chime-wire away from the back-door of the clock (this should not touch the wood). Close the back door of the clock, hang the clock back onto the wall, and add the top-piece, weights, etc.
  • Set the minute hand to the hour/half-hour and check if the gong now chimes and sounds better.

The clock does not chime on the half- or full hour

Possibly the hammer does not connect properly with chime-wire.

  • Wind the clock up fully and remove weights, pendulum and the top-piece from the cuckoo clock.
  • Lay the clock face-down on a soft blanket or cushion
  • Open the back of the clock and gently pull the chime-wire away from the back-door of the clock, this should not touch the wood.
  • Check if the hammer actually touches the chime-wire of the gong. If not, bend the wire of the hammer a little so that it touches the chime-wire.
  • Close the back-door of the clock and hang the clock back onto the wall and add the top-piece, weights etc.
  • Set the minute hand to the hour/half-hour and check if the gong now chimes.

The cuckoo only calls once

  • Wind the clock up fully and remove weights, pendulum and the top-piece from the cuckoo clock.
  • Remove from the wall and lay the clock face-down on a soft blanket or cushion
  • Lift the hour-hand (small hand) up slightly. Set it to the correct/required time and push gently against the face of the clock.
  • Hang the clock back onto the wall and add top-piece, weights, etc. Push the minute hand (long hand) to the full or half-hour and check if the cuckoo now calls correctly.
Questions about smoking men

Which candles/incense can be used in the smoking-men?
We recommend candles and incense from the Knox company

How do I use them?
Light the candles at the top and allow them to burn slowly in a smoking-man or other fire-safe receptacle

Important notice!!!
Please note well:

  • Use under supervision only!
  • These candles become very hot!
  • Candles and smoking-men are not toys nor are they suitable for children!
  • The candles are not suitable for consumption!

Questions about Christmas Pyramids

How to set up your pyramid

  1. Unpack all parts carefully
  2. Remove paper lying between the parts, hold the axis of the pyramid carefully, and set it gently onto the bottom part
  3. Set the wheel with the wings carefully onto the axis of the pyramid.
  4. Use with candles under supervision only.
  5. After a while in use, a drop of oil in the base part can be used.

Why are the propellers not turning?

  • The wings of the propellers are possibly not properly aligned with the candles
  • Please check that the wings are all at the same position and in an angle of 35 – 40 degrees to the base of the pyramid.
  • If the candles are too large or too small, it could cause the propellers not to turn. Many of our pyramids can be used with tea lights. For larger pyramids, we recommend the candles from the Knox company, size 7 cm in height and 1.4 cm in diameter.

Questions about beer steins

 How should these be cleaned?

  • Wash by hand only and do not put into the dishwasher, as these are partly hand-painted and sometimes have parts attached. These could become loose in the dishwasher.
  • When cleaning the tin top, make sure you use a soft dust-cloth or feather duster, as the top could otherwise become scratched.
